Cardinals™ Fact
Jesse “Pop” Haines pitched the most seasons with the Cardinals - 18.
On June 1, 1910 Cardinals lead-off hitter and second baseman, Miller Huggins, came to the plate six times in a game at Philadelphia and was not credited with an official at bat. Huggins walked four times and sacrificed twice. This is believed to be the first time this unusual feat had been accomplished in the Major Leagues.
Only one player has hit a ball out of Busch Memorial Statdium. On September 15, 1986, seldom-used first baseman Mike Laga hit a foul ball that cleared the upper-deck about two-thirds the way down the right field foul line.
The 1985 Cardinals posted a 21-9 September record to overtake New York, and eventually become that season’s National League champions.
Ken Reitz, a slick-fielding Cardinal third baseman from 1972 - 1980, twice established at season record for least number of errors in a season.
