LOST took us on a ride of emotional twists and turns and left us last night with great anticipation for the final season.

We saw a lot of Jacob and the mythology of the island last night. So much mythology that that part of the story just went nearly wacko (or at least so wacko that my mind couldn’t comprehend).

Who was it that told Jack he had to give dead Locke something of Christian’s? I don’t remember, but this has to have something to do with the other guy we saw on the beach with Jacob at the beginning (the one who said he was going to kill him).

So, let’s take a quick look at this scene we saw at the beginning with Jacob and the other guy. The other guy tells Jacob he hates him and will kill him before it’s all over. What Jacobs in history have had people pissed at him? The first to come to my mind is from the Bible – Jacob and Esau.

Jacob tricks his aging father into giving him his older brother’s (Esau) blessing. Esau finds out and is enraged. Makes sense. Then there is this passage in Genesis 25:27 – “The boys grew up, and Esau became a skillful hunter, a man of the open country, while Jacob was a quiet man, staying among the tents.”

Even if you aren’t a follower of Christ or a reader of the Bible, it’s worth a few minutes to read the account of Jacob and Esau. Genesis 25 verse 19-31 and then skip to chapter 27.

here are some excerpts:

21 Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was barren. The LORD answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant. 22 The babies jostled each other within her, and she said, “Why is this happening to me?” So she went to inquire of the LORD.

23 The LORD said to her,
“Two nations are in your womb,
and two peoples from within you will be separated;
one people will be stronger than the other,
and the older will serve the younger.”

then after Jacob deceives his father for the blessing:

Esau held a grudge against Jacob because of the blessing his father had given him. He said to himself, “The days of mourning for my father are near; then I will kill my brother Jacob.”

I think this is pretty evident the connection between these two characters, but now what is the loophole? what is the ash ring? who put it there and what was its intended use? some have said that was to keep Jacob contained, but what if that was to actually keep Esau somehow contained?

I think this storyline opens many many more questions and possible outcomes. There are so many ways this could go.

Now, the Losties themselves are in a different boat (and timeframe). I originally started thinking the hydrogen bomb was going to end up being connected to the key that Desmond turned that made the Swan station explode in a big white light … kind of like what it looked like when Juliet triggered it. I still don’t think it’s out of the picture, and I still don’t think this changed anything. I think this was Faraday’s plan all along. He knew and played off Jack’s need to make things right, and this is what needed to happen all along because whatever happened happened … or what’s done is done. I don’t think they are going to land safely in Los Angeles with Charlie sneaking heroine in the lav, Kate in cuffs and Locke on wheels.

I think Sawyer more than anyone else gave an unbelievable performance. Bravo. I was barely able to breathe after a few of those intense scenes.

This was a major hanger … way to go Darlton … you gave us so much to digest and yearn for over the next 9 months.

I think the final season is going to either be filled with the best episodes ever or the worst episodes ever. You think Nicki and Paulo were bad, you think the Constant was great … I think next season will blow the best and worst out of the water.

Oh yeah, and the “black and white” theme continue … Jacob wearing a white shirt and the “other guy (Esau)” wearing a black shirt. Even the logo has changed from white text on black back to black text on a white back.
