This seems to be the latest theme for the University of Arkansas football program. This is definitely an indication of things to come, but what it’s indicating is yet to be seen.

  1. Offensive Coordinator Gus Malzahn goes to Tulsa
  2. Quarterback Mitch Mustain goes to Tulsa
  3. Junior cornerback Chris Houston leaves for NFL draft
  4. Junior defensive end Jamaal Anderson leaves for NFL draft

May end up not being a big deal … may end up being a huge deal. Arkansas finished 15th and 16th in the final Associated Press and USA Today Coaches’ polls, respectively, released on Tuesday. The Hogs were one of six SEC teams to be ranked in at least one of the two polls.

The Razorbacks appeared in the post-season polls for the first time since 1999 when the Hogs finished 17th and 19th respectively. This year’s final rankings marked the highest finish by Arkansas since it garnered the 13th position in both the AP and UPI polls following a Southwest Conference championship in 1989.

Arkansas finished the season 10-4, including a 7-1 SEC record, in navigating the toughest schedule in school history. The Razorbacks played a school-record eight ranked teams and eight squads that earned bowl berths. Arkansas’ four losses this season were against teams ranked in the top five of the coaches’ poll including national champion and No. 1 Florida, No. 3 LSU, No. 4 Southern California and No. 5 Wisconsin.

Florida was a consensus No. 1 pick in both polls after defeating Ohio State in the BCS Championship Game. LSU was ranked No. 3 in both polls while Auburn was ranked eighth by USA Today and ninth by AP. Tennessee was 23rd in the USA Today coaches’ poll and 25th in the AP listing. Georgia earned a spot in the AP poll at No. 23.
