Are You Sure?
In a day and time when fans blast players for wanting to renegotiate or snooker themselves out of a contract that they see as “unfit,” what in the world is going on in the NFL with the Jets and Chiefs?
Now, not much blame can be placed here for the Chiefs. If you never ask for something, chances are you’ll never get that something. This something turns out to be now former Jets head coach Herman Edwards.
Only a week removed from the announced retirement of Dick Vermeil, the Chiefs will announce a multi-year deal to acquire the services of Herman Edwards as their new head coach. What’s all the hub-ub? The NFL approved the deal (releasing Edwards from 2 remaining years with the Jets) for only a fourth-round draft pick.
Did you get that? A FOURTH-ROUND DRAFT PICK! Kudos to Carl Peterson for somehow swindling this deal through the league.
To put the perplexity into perspective, the Chiefs had to give the St. Louis Rams a second and third-round draft pick to get Coach Dick to KC … and he wasn’t even coaching anymore! Tampa Bay had to pay up for the services of John Gruden by giving the Oakland Raiders TWO first-rounders, TWO second-rounders AND $8 million.
The Chiefs just tiptoed through the tulips. Herman Edwards is in Kansas City, and the Jets have that coveted, awe-inspiring fourth-round draft pick. Genius!
Go Chiefs!
