LOST :: LaFleur
LaFleur starts off back near the Orchid where we last saw Sawyer, Juliet, Miles and Jin standing around the spot where Locke had used the rope to go down to the donkey wheel, but is now just a thick rope in the ground. Miles points out something startling off in the distance – what we assume has to be and entire ginormous figure of the four-toed statue attached to it still. However, we only saw back of its head down to about the mid-back. This definitely had to be a clue for the future, but what, we can only theorize. The statue seemed to have long hair with pointy ears wearing an ancient man-skirt type thing, shirtless and holding two Ankh crosses**, and I think this symbol is highly clue-ish.
** The ankh was the Egyptian hieroglyphic character that read “eternal life”, a triliteral sign for the consonants ˁ-n-ḫ. Egyptian gods are often portrayed carrying it by its loop, or bearing one in each hand, arms crossed over their chest. It is also known as the key of life, the key of the Nile, or as crux ansata, Latin for “cross with a handle”. More at Wikipedia
It looks very Egyptian from the back – something like Ra. Being able to see it from the front (and I’m sure we will), we will get a better picture on who or why it might have been built.
From here the episode wasn’t really action-packed, but a very engaging story nonetheless. There were a bunch of “three years later/three years earlier” segments that revolved in the 1970′s DHARMA. This is pretty much all about Sawyer, Juliet, Jin, Miles and Farraday (we’ll call them The Crew).
The Crew ends up in DHARMA-ville where Horace is talking with Sawyer. Sawyer tells him their boat shipwrecked and his name was James LaFleur and their crew was missing and on and on. Horace seemed to buy it.
Then who shows up but none other than Richard Alpert. We find out that DHARMA and Alpert’s people had a truce and Sawyer and Juliet broke it when they killed the two hostiles attacking Amy. Sawyer, or LaFleur, strolls out to talk with Alpert to smooth things over. Sawyer seemed to gain some credibility with Alpert by telling him about his knowledge of of Jughead (the bomb) and Locke. Alpert then agrees to maintain the truce in exchange for Amy’s husband Paul, who also died earlier.
Sawyer’s actions with Alpert buys The Crew two more weeks at DHARMA-ville, “looking for the rest of their crew” a.k.a. waiting for Locke to return. Two weeks becomes three years and suddenly they’re caught up to the final moments of “316″ when Jin sees Hurley, Jack and Kate coming out of the lagoon. We see Sawyer get a phone call and rush off. Sawyer takes his sweet DHARMA Jeep and meets up with them where Jack, Kate, Hurley and Jin are there – LOST.
Now there were some little tid-bits throughout this episode, like:
- We see a young red-headed girl and the camera focus on Farraday when The Crew is sitting around the table on the playground. We hear a voice call for her, but I couldn’t make it out. Maybe this was indeed Charlotte?
- The Crew somehow seems to have been assimilated into DHARMA life. Sawyer is the security chief. Miles is one of his guys. Jin is out leading search patterns. Juliet is a grease monkey … then delivers a baby … and no one questions this?
- We see Amy take a necklace off her slain husband and it is another Ankh cross. I don’t think this was coincidence. This is the same pendant we discover Horace found in Amy’s sock drawer that sent him into a drunken, dynamite throwing stupor.
