LOST :: Whatever Happened, Happened

Overall this was a pretty good episode. I really liked it, but the best part of this episode (for me) was the dialog between Hurley and Miles was great. This is the exact conversation I’ve been having, and I see both sides, but I really keep coming back to what Hurley says.
Hurley starts out sitting at a table staring at his hand (a la Back to the Future) to see if he starts to disappear if Little Ben ends up dying. The thought being, if Little Ben dies now, he won’t grow up to be Big Ben who makes them all come back to this point in time … and makes our heads start hurting.
Miles explains “it doesn’t work that way (in our show)” and explains in some more detail from only what we gather Farrady explained to him. But Hurley comes back to say the key question that I know I have been thinking …
“How does Older Ben not remember being shot by Sayid when he was Little Ben while Older Ben is being tortured by Sayid?” Great question Hurley.
Now, later in the show, Kate and Sawyer end up taking Little Ben to Richard Alpert to get healed. Alpert tells them that if he takes Little Ben and heals him, he “won’t remember anything that happened. He won’t be himself and he’ll lose his innocence.”
Wait a minute! Hold the phone! I call B.S.! From everything this show has produced over the years, THIS answer is the best they could come up with? This seems a little too easy and hokey of an answer. Come on, there has to be more to it than just the face value of “he won’t remember anything.”
We got some backstory on Kate and some off-island story … but in her “mom” scenes, she came a cross as sucking (or losing her focus). She KNOWS people are after her and Aaron. She lets go of his hand in the store and loses him, then finds him again. Then, she ends up at a hotel complex and leaves him alone in the room two doors down. Seriously? Maybe that’s just to show how frazzled her mind is becoming and how off-her-guard she’s gotten? Whatever.
Oh, and what’s up with the completely fake overdub of Aaron’s voice? Are they telling us they couldn’t get the kid actor to say, “mommy I’m thirsty,” and “juice box?” Come on!
So, overall great episode. Some great stuff from Hurley and Miles. I thought these scenes were the best of the episode.
Leave your thoughts and theories. We’re interested to know what you think.
