NCAA Tourney ins-and-outs
This has to be one of the most conveluted brackets ever put out by the NCAA’s Selection Committee. Obviously, you can’t argue with the teams that are in due to automatic bids by winning their conference tournament. Of course, some don’t have the resume to get in without that tournament win – Wright State, Albany, Eastern Kentucky and Davidson just to name a few.
But, some of the at-large selections by the committee are mind-boggling at best.
- In – Texas Tech. Out – Kansas State. K-State beat Tech in the regular season AND in the conference tournament. K-State also beat three of the teams that beat Arkansas (in) this season; however, the Wildcats were left out of the dance.
- In – Purdue. In – Old Dominion. In – Arizona. In – Xavier. In – Indiana. In – Villanova. What made the resumé of these teams better than the resumés of: Out – Missouri State. Out – Kansas State. Out – Florida State. Out – Syracuse. Out – Illinois. Out – Clemson. Out – West Virginia.
Does the committee just flip a coin with some of these teams that are similar? FSC doesn’t have the answer, and no one is going to give it either.
That said, get ready for a wild and wacky March. Don’t rely on seeding this year in filling out your bracket. Some of the seeds are misleading and might get you in trouble.
Have fun with it, and here’s a bracket for you to print and fill out. Stay tuned as FSC puts together its bracket and posts it for all the world.
