I’m writing this as I watch - looks to be Desmond-centric.
Starts off with Desmond, Sayid and Frank in the helicopter following a precise “cheat sheet” that Dan made. Desmond seems to have a vision of himself in the military having a dream of being in a helicopter. Maybe this military life is paralleling what happened to him during the hatch implosion. This doesn’t seem to be a regular flashback where Desmond is just remembering something that happened in the past.
Something seems to happen to Desmond in the helicopter and he freaks out. He begins trying to unbuckle his belts, turns and asks Sayid, “who are you?”

Back on the island Jack is worrying about where the helicopter was and why it was taking so long. Dan decides to tell them that what happens on the island isn’t exactly the same time frame as elsewhere.
The helicopter lands on the boat and Desmond freaks on everyone. He tells them that he’s not friends with anyone. They take him to the “sick bay” to have a doctor look at him. They shut the door and he yells, “I’m not supposed to be here! This isn’t supposed to happen to me!” Then, a voice from the shadows, saying, “it’s happening to you, too, isn’t it?”

Back on the boat deck, Sayid is checking things out. Sayid gets a phone from Frank and calls Jack telling him what is going on. Dan asks if Desmond has recently been exposed to high levels of radiation or electromagnetism.
Desmond is now trying to talk to the guy in the sick bay. The guy seems to be in a daze, then pops out and tells Desmond he was just on a ferris wheel. The doctor then arrives and injects the guy (who is strapped down in a bed) with a syringe. Doctor then asks Desmond the last thing he remembers. Desmond flashes to the military, and is on the phone with Penny. He flashes back to the boat where Frank and Sayid bust in and puts Desmond on the phone with Farraday. Farraday asks him what year he thinks it is. Desmond says 1996, and he’s in the military. Dan tells him the next time he flashes that he needs to get on a train and go to Oxford, England to the Physics department where he needs to come to find him (Farraday).

Desmond and Dan are still on the phone. Dan tells Desmond some numbers to tell him when he finds him. Desmond gets to Oxford and does it. Dan takes a rat and shoots it with a radiation machine. The rat appears to go into a daze, then comes out and runs flawlessly through a maze. Dan is excited. Desmond isn’t. Dan explains that he built the maze just that morning and hadn’t planned to teach the rat to run it for another hour from then. Dan says that he’s just sent the rat’s conscious into the future. Dan begins to tell him how he can help and Desmond is flashed back to the boat.
The guy in sick bay turns out to be Meinkowski, someone who was mentioned when the Freighties first arrived in the chopper. Meinkowski then says, “Desmond? You’re Desmond? I was the communications officer on the boat. We were told to never answer incoming messages. I did. It was your girlfriend, Penelope.”

Desmond wakes back up in Farraday’s office in Oxford.
(This now begins to explain Desmond’s flashes of the future while he was on the island)
Farraday tells Desmond that he needs to have a constant so that he doesn’t go mad. Something that is dear to him both in the future and during 1996.
Desmond flashes back and forth a few times. Desmond flashes back to 1996 where he heads to find Penny, but her number is disconnected. Desmond finds her father and gets her address from him.
Back on the boat, Desmond is trying to contact Penny. Suddenly, Meinkowski’s nose starts to bleed. Shortly after, he has a seizure and passes out. We assume he is dead at this point. A few minutes later, Desmond’s nose begins to bleed.

Desmond wakes up, and he is back in a bathroom with sink water overflowing in 1996. He takes Penny’s address and goes to it. He finds Penny, and convinces her to listen to his story. He tells her that he won’t call her for 8 years - December 24, 2004 - she gets a weird look on her face, then gives it to him.
Flash back to the boat, and Desmond remembers the number, calls it and lets it ring until Penny picks up.
“Penny?”
“Desmond?”
“Penny, you answered. You answered.”
“Where are you?”
“I’ve been on an island. I’m on a boat. Do you believe me? You still care about me?”
“Of course. I knew and believed when I talked to Charlie.”
“I love you, I’m sorry. I don’t know where I am.”
“I’ll find you.”
“I love you.”
“I love you.”
Phone gets cut off. Desmond says, “thank you Sayid.” and seems to be back as he now remembers Sayid’s name on his own.
Dan is on the island looking through his journal and finds an entry that says, “if anything goes wrong, Desmond Hume will be my constant.”

Kate-sentric
Show opens with Locke cooking some eggs. We then follow Locke down a corridor to a locked room where we find he is holding Ben. Locke gives Ben the breakfast, they converse and Ben gets Locke in a tizzy. Locke storms out.
We’re taken to Kate and Claire on a front porch where Sawyer then enters and they converse, ending with Kate getting upset with Saywer - telling Sawyer to leave.
Cut to Kate in a limousine, puts on sunglasses and gets out to a barrage of photographers and reporters. Kate moves on with what we find out is her lawyer and enters a courthouse where Kate is now on trial for her past accusations. Judge determines Kate is a flight risk and remands her for the duration of the trial.

Come back to Sun and Jin on the beach. Jin is pointing out places on a map in America. Sun says she wans to raise my baby in Korea. Jin says, “isn’t it our baby?”
We now see Kate at Locke’s house wanting to speak to Miles (who Locke has locked up somewhere). Kate then sees Hurley taking food out of the complex and asks if he is taking it to Miles. Hurley says yes, where Kate responds by telling Hurley she will do it. At that point Hurley figures out she just “Scooby-Dooed” him. Kate moves on to find Miles. Miles says he will tell her everything she wants to know if he can have one minute to talk with Ben.
We’re taken back to the courthouse where Kate is with her laywer. Lawyer says, “I think we had better bring ‘him’ into this.” Kate refuses, laywer persists, Kate emphatically says, “you’re not bringing my son into this!”
Back to the beach where Jack is trying to call the freighter … no response.
Kate and Claire are now in the yard hanging laundry. Aaron begins fussing. Claire asks Kate to pick him up and comfort him. Kate declines. Claire says, “you should try being a mother sometime.”
Flashed forward to the courthouse with Kate. Lawyer calls Dr. Jack Sheppard as a character witness. Jack sits down and tells a story about how him and Kate met … different from what we know … only 8 survived … crashed in water … Kate was the crash-day hero … Kate administered First Aid to all … then, as Jack is continuing, Kate stands up and stops him from saying any more. Prosecution then asks Jack if he loves the defendant. Jack replies, “not any more.”
We come back to the island with Hurley picking out movies and chooses Xanadu. Kate wants to talk with Sawyer, Sawyer offers nice box of Dharma wine. Kate says she wants him to help her get Ben to Miles.

Sawyer turns up at Locke’s house to play some backgammon. Sawyer begins telling Locke the story of how Kate wants to bust out Ben to go to Miles. Locke gets in another tizzy and rushes off to where Miles is being held. They arrive at the boathouse to find Miles missing.
Kate now has Miles and breaks into Locke’s house where Ben is being held in the basement. Kate opens the door and Miles talks with Ben. Miles asks been if he knows who he is and who he works for … he then tells Ben he wants $3.2 million within a week. Kate says time’s up and pulls him out. Kate then asks Miles if they all know who she is. Miles says yes and suggests Kate stay on the island.

Kate is back in her house when Locke comes in and talks to Kate alone. Locke wants to know what Miles told Ben. Kate tells him and Locke tells her he wants her gone by morning.
We then go back to the courthouse with Kate. Her mom comes into the room in a wheelchair and says she doesn’t want to testify against her. Kate says, “then don’t.” Back to the island, Kate enters Sawyers room where they make out.
Back to the beach where Dan and Charlotte are counting cards, but Dan can only remember two of three cards and gets upset. Jack comes up and asks why they can’t contact the boat. Charlotte tells them of an emergency line … they call. Regina on the boat asks why they called that line. Charlotte asks about the helicopter that lifted off the island the day before. Regina knows nothing of the boat and everyone gets concerned about where it is.
Lock visits Miles in the boathouse where he is chained to the rafters. Locke puts a grenade in Miles’ mouth and leaves.

Back to the courthouse, prosecution doesn’t have their star witness (Kate’s mom). They then move to make a deal. DA wants 4 years, Kate says no. DA says 10 years probation w/ no leaving the state … Kate jumps and accepts. Kate then goes out the back door of the courthouse where a cab is waiting, and Jack. Kate says she’s heard him tell that story so many times that she’s starting to think he believes it. Jack tells her that what he said in there about not loving her was a lie. Kate asks him to come back to her house. Jack looks disturbed and declines. Kate says, “is it about my son? Until you can deal with it, we’re not going to see each other.”
We’re then taken to Kate’s house after the trial where she talks to a babysitter who tells her that “he” just went down for a nap. Kate goes upstairs to “his” room where a young blonde toddler is sleeping. She wakes him up, hugs him and says, “Hi, Aaron.”
*** boom - end LOST ***
Kate has Claire’s baby Aaron. I called it from the beginning of this episode.
Taking a look back through the Missouri State men’s basketball over the past decade, I’ve noticed that when the national media gets involved in talking about the program and their non-existent NCAA post-season appearances, they always like to throw out a statement like this:
“… their RPI is good, but they were still not selected. Just goes to show you how little the RPI is factored into decisions, and how the RPI shouldn’t be counted on as a determining factor …”
Then, the same national media who have been spewing this garbage turns around and says the opposite when one of their Little Buddies is taking major fire, and in obvious peril of getting the axe … like now:
“… don’t know why Hinson is under so much heat from the fans. Just look at his teams’ finishing RPIs during his tenure. What else does he have to do? …”
What?! In years past you were saying “… RPI doesn’t matter …” but now you’re defending keeping a job by saying “… but, look at the RPI …”???? Seriously, you don’t think that’s a bit two-faced, double-tongued or hypocritical?

OOOOO, once again LOST makers have come out firing on all cylinders. “The Economist” is the third episode of and undeniable A+ season. This episode was Sayid-centric, showing him as one of the ones who gets off the island.
Theories abound vast and abundantly all over the LOST community.
Episode begins at the helicopter (carrying Dan, Miles, Frank and Charlotte) that has now landed on the island. Jack, Kate, Juliet, Sayid, Miles, Dan, Frank and dead Naomi are all at the helicopter. The newbies say they are not going anywhere in the helicopter without Charlotte (who is at the barracks with Locke’s crew). Sayid says he will go and bring her back, IF, they will fly him off the island to the freighter. They agree — Sayid, Miles and Kate trompse off into the jungle.
We are then taken to a scene of Sayid alone on a golf course, when a cart pulls up beside him. A man gets out, comments how Sayid has been the only one on the course all day and bets Sayid that he can hit his ball closer. Guy asks Sayid what he does for a living and Sayid mentions he is one of the Oceanic 6. Guy gets obviously nervous, then hits it closer. A short conversation takes place. Sayid calls guy by his name (not previously said). Guy says don’t worry about the bet, and tries to hurry into the cart. Sayid insists on paying him, reaches into his golf bag, pulls out a gun and shoots the guy.
We are then taken to Sayid in a coffehouse in Germany. Sayid meets a woman sitting alone and tries to speak German and ask directions. Woman speaks English and gives directions. Woman (Elsa) tells him she works for an economist who is rarely in town, asks Sayid what he does for a living. Sayid says, “I’ll tell you if you let me take you to dinner.” Sayid leaves and tells someone on a cell phone, “I’ve made contact.” Then, throws the phone away.
Back on the island … we see Dan working on some sort of experiment/contraption … calls the freighter and asks for them to “send the payload.” Regina (on boat) begins counting down - gets to zero - nothing on the island.
On to the barracks … crew shows up and finds Hurley tied up and locked in a closet. Hurley tells us they are all going to Ben’s house, and away they all go.
Back at the helicopter, Jack and Frank are talking when suddenly a missile-type thing comes crashing down to Dan’s contraption … and Dan is disturbed … there is a timer attached to the projectile which has a 31 minute time difference from the one on the island.
Sayid now has found a hidden room in Ben’s house. While in there, Sawyer and Locke sneak in and essentially kidnap Kate, Sayid and Miles. Kate is with Sawyer in Ben’s bedroom. Sayid is taken to the Others’ rec room/jail. Miles is somewhere else.
We are then taken back to the flashforward with Sayid and Elsa laying in bed. They talk. They kiss. Sayid says he will tell her some important information - then, her boss pages her. Sayid tells her she has to get out of the country b/c something bad is going to happen to her boss. She gets upset and psuedo-frantic, then shoots Sayid in the shoulder. She then returns to the bathroom and calls her boss on the phone saying Sayid didn’t tell her who he was, but she was going to bring him to the “safe house.” Sayid then throws himself off the bed, over to where his gun was sitting and as Elsa runs out, he shoots her multiple times. Sayid then notices a bracelet on her wrist that was a very similar design to the one that he found on Naomi in the beginning of the episode.
Back to the island — Sayid comes back to the helicopter with Charlotte. Frank, Sayid and Desmond get on the helicopter and take off to head to the freighter.
Back to the flashforward — Sayid is injured and we see him walk into what seems to be a veterinary hospital. An unseen man begins working to take the bullet out of Sayid’s shoulder, and talking to him. As they discuss what happened, the man tells Sayid he has a new name for him. Sayid says they know who he is now. Then we see who the man is … and it’s BEN!!! Who says, “Good.”
In the end … Ben and Sayid - working together off the island!
What is going on!?!?!?!?!?!?
The two weeks that span the time between the Super Bowl and the Daytona 500 have to be the absolute worst time of the year for sports fans. It’s just brutal. No football. No great basketball - college or pro (not that there’s a lot of NBA following here). No great golf … and when you’ve got 6 inches of snow on the ground, it makes it kind of tough to get hyped about it. No baseball.
Here’s what we’ve got:
- various regular season basketball (college/pro)
- NHL?
- NBA?
- NASCAR speedweeks
- Golf in tropical and arid climates
And a lot of waiting around for Spring Training to hit, Daytona 500 to kick-off NASCAR, and March Madness to captivate us all.
