After African American fullback Sam “Bam” Cunningham led Southern Cal to a rout of Bear Bryant’s all-white Alabama football team in the early 1970s, Crimson Tide assistant coach Jerry Claiborne proclaimed: “Sam Cunningham did more to integrate Alabama in sixty minutes than Martin Luther King accomplished in twenty years.”
